Overview

ADK Microphones designs and produces microphones, including the ADK Z² Z-Mod Tube Microphone Series, described as hand-crafted in the USA, multi-pattern, Class A valve/tube condenser mics designed with David Bock. The brand also offers the ADK T-FET Tri-Polar Microphone Series and the ADK 3 ZIGMA hybrid modular microphone for studio and stage. ADK states its proprietary capsule design is used in 100% of its models, and its Custom Shop offers a range of tonal colors. The company says its story includes providing vocal mics for two 2003 albums, Got Swing by The Manhattan Transfer and Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles.

History

ADK Microphones states that in 2003 it provided vocal mics for two acclaimed albums: Got Swing by The Manhattan Transfer and Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles, which it describes as a turning point in its mic design. At that time, ADK says options for capsules were limited to either prohibitively expensive European models or low-quality Asian alternatives. Rather than reskinning Chinese capsules, ADK says its design team in Europe and the USA set out to reimagine vintage mic sound using straight-wire theory, developing capsules that naturally embodied the tone of its five favorite vintage mics. ADK says its Custom Shop Z-Mod, inspired by Ray Charles, took seven years to perfect.
