Overview
Adenia Partners is a private equity firm headquartered in Beau Plan, Mauritius, that describes itself as the only responsible private equity investor in Africa focusing exclusively on making control investments. Founded in 2002, the firm has built one of the longest track records of any investor on the continent, making values-based investments in promising African companies and taking responsibility for guiding them to sustainable growth. Adenia invests in medium-sized companies across Africa — from north to south, east to west — in a variety of sectors, with the aim of creating regional champions continent-wide. As a control investor, the firm says it is empowered to deliver high value and positive outcomes to all its stakeholders: by creating stronger companies with quality jobs, fostering economic improvement and elevating investees to meet ESG standards, it seeks to increase enterprise value for investors while benefiting workers, communities, companies and the natural environment in Africa. According to its own disclosures, Adenia has raised $1.1 billion across six funds, sourced $105 million in co-investments from LPs, made more than 30 investments and completed 22 exits, sustaining over 19,000 jobs. The firm operates seven local offices across Africa, reflecting a pan-African strategy that spans West, East, Southern and North Africa. Its fund family includes the flagship Adenia Capital series and the newer Adenia Entrepreneurial Fund. Adenia has been a signatory to the PRI and the Operating Principles for Impact Management (OPIM), and it has developed a dedicated impact management and monitoring framework, a carbon footprint assessment and a 2X-aligned gender policy. In 2024 it closed Adenia Capital (V) at $470 million and was awarded 2X Flagship Fund status, while in 2026 it announced a $180 million hard cap at first close for its Entrepreneurial Fund and acquired a majority stake in Minet Group from Capitalworks. The firm remains privately held and is not listed on any stock exchange.
History
Adenia Partners traces its origins to 2002, when it began investing in African companies. Over the following two decades it grew into one of the longest-standing private equity investors on the continent, building a strategy centred on control investments in medium-sized businesses. The firm's fund history includes a series of flagship vehicles. In 2012 it closed Adenia Capital (III), and in 2013 it expanded into West Africa with an office in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire while changing its brand name to Adenia Partners. In 2016 it closed Adenia Capital (IV) at €230 million and opened a new office in Kenya, strengthening its environmental and social management system and appointing an investment committee member responsible for ESG management at the firm level. In 2017 it expanded into East and Southern Africa with offices in Kenya and South Africa. Adenia marked its 20th anniversary in 2022 and achieved 2X Flagship Fund status for Adenia Capital (V). In 2023 it held a first close of Adenia (V) at $300 million, opened a new office in Nigeria, and established a dedicated Environmental, Social, Governance & Impact (ESGI) team. In 2024 it closed Adenia Capital (V) at $470 million, was awarded 2X Flagship Fund status, expanded into Nigeria with an office in Lagos, and established a presence in Egypt. In 2026 it closed the Adenia Entrepreneurial Fund (I) at a $180 million hard cap and acquired a majority stake in Minet Group from Capitalworks. Alongside its fundraising, Adenia developed a formal impact and responsible-investing framework. It became a PRI signatory and an OPIM signatory in 2019, developed its impact management and monitoring framework the same year, undertook its first carbon footprint assessment in 2020, adopted a 2X-aligned gender policy and carbon commitments in 2021, and established a definition of an investee theory of change. The firm reports having raised $1.1 billion across six funds, sourced $105 million in co-investments from LPs, made more than 30 investments and completed 22 exits, sustaining over 19,000 jobs, with seven local offices across Africa.
