ACV Automobil-Club Verkehr

ACV Automobil-Club Verkehr is a German automobile club founded in 1962 by the Cologne-based DEVK Versicherungen under the name 'Automobilclub der Verkehrsbediensteten Deutschlands'. It describes itself as the third-largest mobility club in Germany with around 520,000 members. The club offers tiered membership tariffs (Komfort and Premium) covering breakdown and accident assistance, family protection, bicycles, caravans, motorhomes, and related services.

ACV was founded in 1962 by the Cologne-based DEVK Versicherungen as the 'Automobilclub der Verkehrsbediensteten Deutschlands' (ACV), an independent automobile club for employees in the transport sector. Initially too small to handle breakdown assistance on its own, it became a corporate member of the Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD), whose red service vehicles also assisted ACV members. By 1968 the club had 32,000 members in 110 local clubs and opened itself to all motorists regardless of profession. In 1970 it renamed itself 'Automobil-Club Verkehr' and expanded its services, offering for an annual fee of 18 DM benefits such as breakdown assistance, fuel vouchers, camping permits, border papers, road maps, and tour advice. In 1973 it reorganized its structure to divide into regional associations. Today ACV describes itself as the third-largest mobility club in Germany with around 520,000 members.
