Overview

ACSL, Inc. (株式会社ACSL) is a Japanese industrial drone manufacturer headquartered in Edogawa-ku, Tokyo. Founded in November 2013 as Autonomous Control Systems Laboratory (自律制御システム研究所), it originated from the Nonami Laboratory at Chiba University. The company is notable as the only listed company in Japan dedicated exclusively to drone manufacturing. It develops, manufactures, and sells industrial drones that incorporate its proprietary autonomous control systems, and provides solutions for automation and IoT using autonomous control technology. Its mission is 'Liberate Humanity through Technology,' and its vision is to become a trusted partner supporting safety and security worldwide by reconstructing dangerous and labor-intensive operations through robotics technology, including autonomous control. ACSL's product lineup includes industrial drones for applications such as infrastructure inspection, disaster response, and logistics. The company has achieved several milestones, including the first successful remote control of a drone using an LTE network in 2016, the development and commercialization of 'cerebral' autonomous control using Visual-SLAM in 2017, and providing drones for Japan Post's first Level 3 flight after legal revisions in 2018. It has also conducted joint development and demonstration experiments for drone delivery services. ACSL is led by Co-CEOs Kensuke Hayakawa and Shoji Terayama. It has a US subsidiary, ACSL, Inc., led by CEO Cynthia Huang. The company is publicly listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (originally Mothers, now Growth) since December 2018. It continues to advance autonomous drone technology, with recent press releases indicating progress in NEDO K Program research on autonomous control and distributed control technology for small unmanned aircraft, as well as financial activities such as overseas stock issuance and convertible bonds.

History

ACSL was established in November 2013 in Chiba Prefecture as Autonomous Control Systems Laboratory (株式会社自律制御システム研究所), a university-launched venture originating from the Nonami Laboratory at Chiba University.
