Overview

ACR Brändli + Vögeli AG is a Swiss company headquartered in Bad Zurzach in the canton of Aargau. It develops and distributes products in the fields of car audio, car media, infotainment, navigation and vehicle integration, and it also supplies connectivity solutions for motorhomes. The company traces its origins to 1975, when R. Wanner, J. Adolph and W. Vögeli opened a 28-square-metre specialist shop for home loudspeaker kits in central Zurich. From that retail beginning, ACR grew into one of Europe's leading distributors for car audio and car multimedia. The company's portfolio combines proprietary brands and distributed brands. Its sound-system brands include AXTON, EMPHASER and ETON, while its infotainment and navigation brands include ZENEC and XZENT. CAMPERNET extends the range into LTE and 5G router systems for mobile internet in motorhomes. ACR sells through an international network of specialist dealers and distributors: more than 100 authorised ACR specialist dealers operate in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the brands are distributed through international partners in more than 50 countries. The dealer network, which dates back to the 1980s, is central to the company's positioning, combining product sales with consultation and professional installation. Product development is organised in two competence centres. The headquarters in Bad Zurzach handles car media, infotainment, navigation and vehicle integration, while the ETON headquarters in Neu-Ulm, Germany, focuses on car audio. ACR also operates a 3,850-square-metre European warehouse with an attached service centre and logistics department in Lauchringen, Germany, close to the Swiss border. The company collaborates with vehicle and motorhome manufacturers to develop vehicle-specific multimedia, navigation and integration solutions for different vehicle platforms. ACR has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since 2009 and today meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. Its corporate culture is described as characterised by short paths, flat hierarchies and a strong team spirit, with interdisciplinary teams working on ideas from early stages through to implementation. The company remains privately held as an Aktiengesellschaft.

History

The origins of ACR Brändli + Vögeli AG date back to 1975, when R. Wanner, J. Adolph and W. Vögeli founded the company ACR and opened a specialist loudspeaker shop in central Zurich. The business initially focused on sourcing and distributing high-quality individual loudspeakers, and it soon added its own loudspeaker kits. In 1977 the company was converted into a stock corporation (Aktiengesellschaft). In 1979 ACR opened its first specialist shop outside Switzerland, in Munich, and further ACR partner shops followed in German-speaking Europe. During the 1980s ACR developed various loudspeaker kit series, including BK Backloaded, Cubic Line, Cello, Cembalo, Pan and Piccolo. To broaden its product range, the company took over exclusive distribution of the FOSTEX studio series. The programme also included the ACR Eckhorn and the ISOSTATIC RP loudspeaker series. At the same time, the dealer network in Germany and Switzerland was continuously expanded. In 1987 the company moved its headquarters from Zurich to Zurzach in the canton of Aargau. Towards the end of the 1980s, ACR expanded its offering with the AXTON brand, adding further loudspeakers and loudspeaker kits. In the following years the AXTON programme also came to include home hi-fi and home cinema loudspeaker systems. During the 1990s the company's focus shifted increasingly from home hi-fi to car audio. With EMPHASER, ACR established its own car hi-fi brand in the early 1990s, while the US brand RODEK was also part of the distribution programme. AXTON, initially positioned mainly in home hi-fi, was increasingly oriented towards car audio over the course of the decade. At the end of the 1990s ACR discontinued the home hi-fi segment and concentrated on car audio from then on. From the 2000s onwards, ACR expanded its product portfolio into car media and multimedia solutions. In 2003 the company introduced ZENEC, a new brand for the multimedia segment. XZENT followed in 2007 as another brand in the car media segment. In 2008 ZENEC introduced the E>GO product line of vehicle-specific multimedia and navigation systems for selected vehicle platforms; the first model, ZE-MC2000, was tailored to vehicles on the VW Golf V platform. In the following years ACR continued to develop vehicle-specific car media solutions, with motorhomes increasingly coming into focus alongside passenger cars. In 2020, as part of an expanded cooperation with paragon, ACR took over worldwide distribution and product management as well as the brand rights for ETON in the car audio/aftermarket segment. With CAMPERNET, ACR later expanded its offering with connectivity solutions for motorhomes, in particular LTE and 5G router systems for mobile internet access. The company has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since 2009 and today meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
