History

ABP Induction's heritage of innovation dates back to 1903, when the first induction channel furnace (1.8t/300kW) was built in Gysinge, Sweden. Over the following decades, the company introduced numerous industry firsts, including automatic casting on high-speed die-casting plants in 1967, the first inductive heating plant for the forging industry in 1972, and the world's largest heating plant with a throughput of 25 tons per hour in 1981. In 1988, ASEA and BBC merged to form ABB, and the world's first melt processor was introduced. In 1992, high-performance furnaces from the new IFM range went into service at Mercedes Benz, and the TWIN-POWER® principle was introduced. In 1996, the first 16MW inverter in the world was commissioned by Gnutti, Italy. In 1998, the first melting plant with IGBT inverter technology was commissioned at Bischofswerke Lüdinghausen, Germany. In 2004, the first heating system with IGBT technology and zone control was built. In 2005, ABP Induction was formed from ABB's 'Foundry' business unit. In 2008, 16MW high-performance furnaces for steel went into service at NASCO in Saudi Arabia. In 2012, TISCO (Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.) placed the largest order in the company's history: 2 x 30t furnaces with 1 x 24MW, 6 x 65t furnaces with 3 x 42MW. In 2014, ABP built the first cross-field heating plant with a total output of 36 MW. In 2018, the strategy for the digitalization of the foundry industry was published. In 2019, ABP became part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Primetals Technologies group.
