A Rocha Ghana is a conservation-oriented non-governmental organisation based in Ghana. It was established in 1999 as the Eden Conservation Society and in 2003 officially became part of the A Rocha Worldwide Family, a global network of Christian conservation organisations. The organisation describes itself as part of A Rocha International, working to show God's love for creation. Its core values mirror the network's five values: Christian, Conservation, Community, Cross-Cultural, and Cooperation. The vision is 'Together caring for God's creation always', and the mission is 'To contribute to the effective management of the Earth's resources through sustainable and innovative actions.' A Rocha Ghana implements practical conservation interventions for the sustainable management of important ecological habitats. Its work spans advocacy, livelihood improvement, sustainable natural resource management, and inter-faith dialogue, underpinned by research. The organisation runs environmental education programmes for people of all ages and carries out research for the conservation and restoration of the natural world. It operates across multiple landscapes in Ghana, including the Atewa Landscape and the Mole Ecological Landscape, and engages in projects related to climate adaptation, shea emission reductions, timber trafficking monitoring, agroecology, and business and human rights in the extractive sector. The organisation is led by a National Director, Dr Seth Appiah-Kubi, supported by a Deputy National Director for Operations, Daryl E Bosu, and a team of programme managers, officers, and support staff. A board of trustees provides governance, chaired by Prof. William Oduro. A Rocha Ghana collaborates with a wide variety of partners, including international donors and NGOs such as the Nationale Postcode Loterij, IUCN NL, Wilde Ganzen, and the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI). It is a non-profit entity, not listed on any stock exchange, and operates primarily within Ghana while being part of a global network.

History

A Rocha Ghana was established in 1999 under the name Eden Conservation Society. From its inception, it operated as a committed environmental NGO providing practical conservation interventions towards the sustainable management of important ecological habitats in Ghana. In 2003, the organisation officially became part of the A Rocha Worldwide Family, a global network of Christian conservation organisations. This affiliation aligned its core values with the network's five core values: Christian, Conservation, Community, Cross-Cultural, and Cooperation. Since then, A Rocha Ghana has grown into a nationally recognised conservation body, implementing a wide range of projects across the country. Its work has included the Strengthen the Roots (StR) Project (2022–2025), funded by the Nationale Postcode Loterij and coordinated by IUCN NL and Wilde Ganzen, which built the capacity of grassroots organisations working at the intersection of conservation and community development. The organisation has also been involved in projects such as the Ghana Shea Emission Reductions Project (GSLERP), the Resilience Against Climate Change (REACH) Project, and various initiatives focused on timber trafficking monitoring, agroecology, and business and human rights in the extractive sector. A Rocha Ghana continues to operate as part of the A Rocha International network, with a team led by National Director Dr Seth Appiah-Kubi and governed by a board of trustees.
