Overview
510 Skateboarding (also called 510 Skate Shop) is a skate shop founded in 1998 by Jerry and Dandy Harris. The shop was created to represent and unify the East Bay skate community outside of San Francisco. It carries skateboard decks, footwear, apparel and accessories from brands including Nike SB, Vans, Adidas, Converse, Polar, Quasi, Dickies and Carhartt W.I.P., and also offers its own 510-branded products.
History
510 Skateboarding was founded in 1998 by Jerry and Dandy Harris. According to an interview republished on the shop's About page, Jerry Harris moved to San Francisco at 18 and met Dandy, then a CAL student, leading him to spend time in the East Bay. At the time the Bay Area skate scene was centered on San Francisco, while the East Bay scene lacked representation and cohesion. The founders opened the shop to create a hub representative of the entire East Bay skate community outside of San Francisco, starting with low expectations and a tiny space.
