Overview

3billion, Inc. is a South Korean medical AI company specializing in genetic testing and AI-powered variant interpretation for rare diseases. Founded in October 2016 and headquartered in Seoul, the company aims to provide fast and accurate diagnoses for rare disease patients, with a mission to create a world where rare disease patients are not excluded from diagnosis and treatment. It operates a clinical laboratory and offers a range of next-generation sequencing (NGS) tests, including whole exome sequencing (3B-EXOME), whole genome sequencing (3B-GENOME), targeted variant analysis (3B-VARIANT), and data interpretation services (3B-INTERPRETER). Its AI variant prioritization platform, GEBRA™, launched in April 2025, helps medical geneticists and diagnostic labs quickly identify clinically relevant variants. 3billion has tested over 62,000 patient genomes as of December 2024 and collaborates with more than 790 institutions and 2,100 healthcare providers across 70+ countries. The company was listed on the KOSDAQ market in November 2024. It has received multiple accreditations, including CLIA certification (December 2022) and CAP accreditation (December 2021), and obtained a California Clinical Laboratory License in April 2023. In 2025, it signed a memorandum of understanding with AstraZeneca Korea to collaborate on genetic testing for rapid diagnosis of atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS). 3billion's product portfolio addresses various clinical needs: 3B-GENOME offers the highest diagnostic yield (35-40%) and covers all variant types; 3B-EXOME provides a cost-effective option with 30-35% diagnostic yield; 3B-VARIANT focuses on specific target variants with results in two weeks; GEBRA™ enables in-house variant interpretation; and 3B-INTERPRETER offers precision interpretation of customer-provided data. All services include free automated reanalysis and clinical reports. The company continues to expand globally, with a focus on the U.S. market, and reported H1 2026 revenue of KRW 7.2 billion, a 56% increase year-over-year.

History

3billion, Inc. was established in October 2016 in Seoul, South Korea, with the goal of providing fast and accurate genetic diagnoses for rare disease patients. The company launched a beta service for direct-to-consumer genetic testing for rare diseases in March 2017, followed by the development of its variant analysis system in January 2018. In February 2019, it launched its whole exome sequencing (WES) diagnostic service, 3B-EXOME, and opened a genomic analysis laboratory in February 2020. By December 2020, the company had tested over 10,000 patient genomes. In May 2021, 3billion participated in a national big data project hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and by December 2021, it had tested over 20,000 patient genomes and received CAP accreditation. In June 2022, it launched its whole genome sequencing (WGS) diagnostic service, 3B-GENOME, and by December 2022, it had tested over 40,000 patient genomes and obtained CLIA certification. In April 2023, the company received a California Clinical Laboratory License, and in December 2023, it launched its data-based diagnostic service, 3B-INTERPRETER. In July 2024, it participated in a non-metropolitan genetic diagnosis support project (KR-RDSP), and by December 2024, it had tested over 62,000 patient genomes. On November 14, 2024, 3billion was listed on the KOSDAQ market. In April 2025, it launched its AI variant interpretation solution, GEBRA™. In 2025, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with AstraZeneca Korea to collaborate on genetic testing for rapid diagnosis of atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS). 3billion has raised multiple rounds of investment, including Series A (KRW 3 billion) in 2018, Series B in 2019, and Series C (KRW 14 billion) in 2021. The company continues to expand its global footprint, with a focus on the U.S. market, and reported H1 2026 revenue of KRW 7.2 billion, a 56% increase year-over-year.
