Overview

385idéal (also styled 385i) is a German hip-hop record label based in Frankfurt am Main. It emerged from a local hip-hop collective called 385Beatz, formed in 2003; the digits 385 refer to the postal code of Frankfurt's Bornheim district (60385), where many early members came from, including rapper Celo and manager Michael „Syn“ Lukaschyk. In early 2008 the name was changed to 385idéal, and work began on the first release by the artists Celo & Abdi. The label's first free internet release, the Mietwagentape, appeared in 2011 and drew the attention of Offenbach rapper Haftbefehl, who signed Celo & Abdi to his Azzlackz label while the pair kept 385idéal running. The label's first signed artist was rapper Olexesh, whose debut mixtape Authentic Athletic was released free online in December 2012, followed by his first studio album Nu eta da in March 2014. Rapper Chaker was the second signing, releasing the album Ben Life in 2014, though it remained his only release on the label. In 2015 rapper Nimo was signed after Celo & Abdi discovered him through mobile-phone rap videos he posted on Facebook; his debut mixtape Habeebeee (early 2016) reached number ten in the German album charts as a digital-only release, and his first studio album K¡K¡ followed a year later. In 2016 the label entered a partnership with the major label Universal Urban, which has since distributed all 385idéal releases. In early 2019 the then-17-year-old German-Polish rapper Krime from Freiburg was signed, having previously appeared several times in the 385idéal format Von der Straße in die Charts. In early 2020 newcomer Schubi AKpella signed with the label after gaining attention through Instagram mobile videos and being discovered by Nimo. In August 2022 the single Magie, featuring Krime, Schubi AKpella and Celo & Abdi, announced the label's first sampler Planet i, which was released on 27 October 2023. In April 2024 rapper Amo was signed, having gained recognition through third place on the rap casting show Rap La Rue. The label's roster has included Celo & Abdi, Olexesh, Nimo, Krime, Schubi AKpella, Amo, and later VS Mosquito and Yeko. 385idéal also runs the format Von der Straße in die Charts (VdSidC), launched in 2013 to give ambitious artists a platform by presenting their music videos on the label's YouTube channel. Several rappers whose first music video appeared through VdSidC later became commercially successful, including Eno, Azzi Memo, Ramo and Zuna. In 2018 the label won the Hiphop.de Award for "Bestes Label national" (Best National Label).

History

385idéal originated in 2003 as 385Beatz, a hip-hop collective in Frankfurt am Main. The number 385 refers to the postal code of the Frankfurt district Bornheim (60385), where many of the then-members came from, including rapper Celo and the later 385idéal manager Michael „Syn“ Lukaschyk. In early 2008 the name was changed to 385idéal, and shortly afterwards production began for the first release by the artists Celo & Abdi. Their Mietwagentape was released free on the internet by 385idéal in 2011. This brought Celo & Abdi to the attention of Offenbach rapper Haftbefehl, who signed them to his label Azzlackz; the two nevertheless kept 385idéal going. The first artist signed to the label was rapper Olexesh, whose first mixtape Authentic Athletic was also released free on the internet in December 2012. His first studio album Nu eta da followed in March 2014. The second artist signed by 385idéal was rapper Chaker, who released his album Ben Life through the label in 2014; it remained his only release on 385idéal. In 2015 rapper Nimo was signed after Celo & Abdi noticed him through mobile-phone rap videos he posted on his Facebook page. He released his debut mixtape Habeebeee in early 2016, which placed at number ten in the German album charts as a purely digital release, and a year later his first studio album K¡K¡. In 2016 the label entered a partnership with the major label Universal Urban, which has since distributed all 385idéal releases. In early 2019 the then-17-year-old German-Polish rapper Krime from Freiburg was signed. He had previously appeared several times in the 385idéal format Von der Straße in die Charts. In early 2020 the newcomer Schubi AKpella signed a contract with 385idéal; he had previously become known through mobile videos on Instagram with his rap and was first discovered by Nimo. In August 2022, with the release of the single Magie featuring Krime, Schubi AKpella and Celo & Abdi, the label's first sampler Planet i was announced. The sampler was released on 27 October 2023. In April 2024 rapper Amo was signed to 385idéal; he had previously gained prominence through his third place on the rap casting show Rap La Rue. In 2013 385idéal launched the format Von der Straße in die Charts (short: VdSidC), which aims to "offer ambitious artists a platform". Within the format, still-unknown rappers get the opportunity to present their music videos on 385idéal's YouTube channel and thus benefit from its reach. Some rappers whose first music video was released as part of VdSidC later became commercially successful, including Eno, Azzi Memo, Ramo and Zuna. In 2018 the label won the Hiphop.de Award for "Bestes Label national" (Best National Label).
