Overview
2xMoinsCher was a French e-commerce website launched in March 2001 by Trokers SA, a company founded in August 2000 by Aymeric Chotard, Pascaline Chotard, and Patrick Moreau. The platform connected buyers and sellers of new and second-hand goods, operating on both C2C and B2C models. It distinguished itself through a trust-based escrow system, acting as an intermediary to secure transactions. The site grew rapidly, becoming the twelfth largest French e-commerce site within three years. In July 2006, Trokers was acquired by 3 Suisses International for €13 million. The site was voted 'Most Appreciated Merchant Site' in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Despite its success, economic difficulties led to the cessation of commercial activity on 18 April 2012. A few months later, Oncle Henry acquired the brand and domain names, reopening the site in October 2012. However, the revival was short-lived; the site closed again in 2023, and the domain was put up for sale. The company Oncle Henry was dissolved in August 2023. 2xMoinsCher competed with Amazon, PriceMinister, and eBay in France.
History
2xMoinsCher was launched in March 2001 by Trokers SA, a company founded in August 2000 in Paris by Aymeric Chotard, Pascaline Chotard, and Patrick Moreau. Trokers had previously operated trokers.net, a barter site, and poketrok.com, a Pokémon card exchange site, both closed in 2009. Inspired by the American site half.com, the team created 2xMoinsCher.com as an e-commerce platform connecting buyers and sellers of new and second-hand goods, operating on both C2C and B2C models. The name was chosen through an online vote, though co-founder Aymeric Chotard later revealed that Prixcool had actually won the majority but management preferred 2xMoinsCher. The site differentiated itself through a trust-based escrow system, acting as an intermediary to secure transactions. It grew rapidly, becoming the twelfth largest French e-commerce site within three years. In July 2006, Trokers was acquired by 3 Suisses International for €13 million. The site was voted 'Most Appreciated Merchant Site' in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Trokers was a member of Fevad and signed several sector agreements, including the CtoC trust charter in 2006, a partnership with Hervé Novelli in 2008 to promote auto-entrepreneur status, a charter against counterfeiting in 2009, a partnership with the Musée de la Contrefaçon in 2010, and an agreement with French Customs in 2011. Despite its success, economic difficulties led to the cessation of commercial activity on 18 April 2012. A few months later, Oncle Henry acquired the brand and domain names, reopening the site in October 2012. Trokers was not dissolved but ceased commercial activity. In 2023, 2xMoinsCher closed again and the domain was put up for sale. On 27 June 2023, sole partner Jean-Baptiste Piron decided on the dissolution of Oncle Henry, which was officially dissolved in August 2023. The company was absorbed by Argosyn (Villeneuve d'Ascq) and struck off in May 2023.
