History

2Spot Communications was founded in Thailand in 2004 as a character-design company. Its distinctive proposition was to connect character creation with downstream commercialization, including licensing, mobile content, merchandise, retail, and consumer promotions. This made it broader than a conventional design studio and positioned it as an early Thai specialist in character-based intellectual property. The company’s first documented mobile products appeared in 2005 through Thailand’s major mobile operators. In 2006, 2Spot presented itself publicly at the Thailand Animation Fair. The following year it opened a shop at Siam Square in Bangkok and exhibited at the Tokyo International Anime Fair, Hong Kong International Licensing Show, and Hong Kong International Stationery Fair. These activities combined direct retail with industry-facing efforts to find licensing and distribution partners. Expansion continued in 2008. 2Spot attended the Hong Kong International Licensing Show again, opened another shop at Central Rama 3, and launched stationery products through 7-Eleven Thailand. The company therefore developed both specialist licensing channels and mass-market distribution. Its character properties could be adapted into stationery, packaging, retail merchandise, and other promotional formats. In 2009, 2Spot’s Bloody Bunny character was used on Foremost milk products sold through 7-Eleven. The company also released applications based on Bloody Bunny, Biscuit, and Unsleep Sheep for iPhone and BlackBerry. That year it received runner-up recognition in both the SIPA Game Contest and SIPA Animation Contest, reflecting its involvement in interactive and animated content as well as static character design. In 2010, 2Spot exhibited at Toy & Comic Expo Asia in Thailand and the Singapore Toy Games & Comic Convention. It also launched a P4 Panda Foremost milk promotion at 7-Eleven Thailand. By this period, the company was reported to have developed more than 20 character sets, over 1,000 products, and more than 3,000 digital-content items. A broader description states that it had created more than 200 characters, with Biscuit, Bloody Bunny, P4 Panda, and Unsleep Sheep among the most popular. 2Spot’s services for licensing partners included product design, sourcing, packaging design, and short animation development. Its digital and promotional licenses were reported as being exported to markets in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Named partners or clients included FlyCell in the United States, Kaga Electronics in Japan, ACE Communications in France, Zoobe in Germany, Moffy in Hong Kong, and Sony Ericsson in Thailand. The company was also featured on television programs including Bangkok Post’s PostScript and Thailand’s Morning Talk TV. Kris Nalamlieng was identified as managing director; public reference material notes that he is the son of Chumpol NaLamlieng, a former Siam Cement chief executive. In April 2012, 2Spot had an iOS shopping application called ShopSpot. The application is now described as defunct, but its closure date is not documented. Available material does not sufficiently establish 2Spot’s current leadership, ownership, financial position, or operating status.
