Overview

18 Chulos is a Spanish entertainment company that began in 1999 as an independent record label and event organiser, founded by Carlos Díaz together with a group of prominent Spanish cultural figures: singer-songwriter Javier Krahe, comedian and television host El Gran Wyoming, Pepín Tre, actor Santiago Segura, comedian Faemino and musician-actor Pablo Carbonell. Javier Amorós serves in an executive direction role. The label's initial purpose was to release records by its own partners, starting with Javier Krahe's Dolor de garganta (1999), followed by Pablo Carbonell's Aceitunas y estrellas and Wyoming & Reverendo's Antolojía 1975-2000. The label soon expanded to release albums by artists it admired, including Diego el Cigala's Entre vareta y canasta, one of its best-selling records, along with works by Javier Ruibal, Sergio Makaroff and Benjamín Escoriza. Its biggest commercial success was the double CD plus DVD ...Y todo es vanidad, a tribute to Javier Krahe featuring Joaquín Sabina, Rosendo, Carmen París, Joan Manuel Serrat and Alejandro Sanz, among others. The catalogue also includes releases by Leo Maslíah, Fuel Fandango, Los Toreros Muertos, Andreas Prittwitz and many more. In the early 2000s, amid the crisis in physical CD sales, the company diversified, creating the cultural communication and marketing agency 18 COMUNICACIÓN, specialising in promoting cultural product launches such as records, concerts, books and exhibitions. In 2012 it broadened its offering with Javier Krahe T-shirts and a live DVD of El Gran Wyoming with his band Los Insolventes, later releasing the film No estamos solos and the book Zozobras completas collecting Javier Krahe's lyrics. Today the company operates as 18Chulos Records & Events, focused on corporate events and integral event production: lighting, sound, production, audiovisuals, comedians, presenters, music, entertainment, motivational talks and team building. It continues to position itself at the forefront of music and the performing arts, offering Spanish and international artists, musical groups, "wow effect" shows, monologists and speakers, with services covering installation, decoration, sound, light and audiovisual solutions. Its stated values include fair prices, cutting out intermediaries, maximum professionalism and fully personalised treatment and themes.

History

18 Chulos was founded in 1999 as an independent record label and event organiser by Carlos Díaz, Javier Krahe, El Gran Wyoming, Pepín Tre, Santiago Segura, Faemino and Pablo Carbonell, with Javier Amorós in executive direction. Faemino later left the project. The label's initial purpose was to release records by its own partners. The first reference was Dolor de garganta (1999) by Javier Krahe, followed by Aceitunas y estrellas by Pablo Carbonell and Antolojía 1975-2000 by Wyoming & Reverendo. The label soon began releasing albums by artists it particularly admired. The first was Entre vareta y canasta by Diego el Cigala, one of its best-selling records. Others followed, including Las damas primero by Javier Ruibal, Makaroff by Sergio Makaroff, and Alevanta by Benjamín Escoriza, singer and founder of the now-defunct group Radio Tarifa. Its greatest commercial success was the double CD plus DVD ...Y todo es vanidad, a tribute to Javier Krahe featuring artists such as Joaquín Sabina, Rosendo, Carmen París, Joan Manuel Serrat and Alejandro Sanz, as well as the Chulos themselves. In the early 2000s, due to the great crisis in physical CD sales, the company went through a phase of business diversification. Among other actions, they created the communication and cultural marketing agency 18 COMUNICACIÓN, specialising in the promotion of cultural product launches: records, concerts, books, exhibitions. In 2012 they expanded their offering, launching T-shirts (of Javier Krahe) and a live DVD recorded with a performance by El Gran Wyoming with his band, Los Insolventes. Later, they put on sale the film No estamos solos and the book Zozobras completas, which collects all of Javier Krahe's lyrics. Currently, they have reconverted into what is now known as 18Chulos Records & Events. They are focused on corporate events, providing integral production of all types of events: lighting, sound, production, audiovisuals, monologists, presenters, music, entertainment, motivational talks, team building... All while remaining at the forefront of music and in permanent contact with the latest innovations in the performing arts and humour.
