Overview

105 TV (also styled 105TV) is an Italian local generalist television broadcaster serving the southern Cilento and Vallo di Diano areas of the Province of Salerno, in the Campania region. It was founded in Sapri in 1988 by Alessandro Cocorullo, who remains its director, as the television arm of the pre-existing Radio Studio 105. Over the years the station moved its headquarters several times, eventually settling in the nearby town of Vibonati. The station's programming has always been strongly focused on the local realities of its coverage area. Because the mountainous terrain of southern Cilento and the Vallo di Diano hindered the expansion of both regional and national television networks — except in main centres such as Vallo della Lucania or Sapri — 105 TV, along with Rete7 Cilento and Italia 2 TV, was one of the few local voices receivable throughout the area. In this context it filled the gap left by the absence of Rai Tre's public service signal, devoting substantial airtime to local news and information. Following Italy's switch to digital terrestrial television, 105 TV was authorised by the Ministry of Communications to transmit its multiplex in part of the Province of Salerno — essentially its original catchment area — on UHF channel 61; since December 2012 it has broadcast on UHF channel 34. Under an agreement with the Salerno-based station Telediocesi Salerno, 105 TV is also receivable in the city of Salerno and in the northern part of the province covered by that multiplex, on LCN 96. The station maintains an online presence through its website 105tv.it and social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok. Its news output covers local politics, health services, culture, sport and community events across its broadcast area.

History

105 TV was founded in Sapri in 1988 by Alessandro Cocorullo, who is still its director, as the television offshoot of the pre-existing Radio Studio 105. Over the years the station changed premises several times before moving to the nearby town of Vibonati. Its programming has always been closely tied to the local reality of its audience base, namely southern Cilento and the Vallo di Diano. Its public-service vocation towards its community stems from the fact that, together with Rete7 Cilento and Italia 2 TV, it was one of the few local broadcasters receivable throughout the area. Apart from main centres such as Vallo della Lucania or Sapri, the rugged terrain effectively hindered the expansion of both regional and national television networks into the southern Cilento and Vallo di Diano catchment area. In this context 105 TV compensated for the lack of Rai Tre public-service reception by giving ample space in its schedule to local news and information. Following the transition to digital technology, 105 TV was authorised by the Ministry of Communications to transmit its multiplex in part of the Province of Salerno — that is, only in its original catchment area — on UHF frequency 61; since December 2012 it has broadcast on UHF frequency 34. Under an agreement with the Salerno-based broadcaster Telediocesi Salerno, 105 TV is also receivable in the city of Salerno and in the northern part of the province covered by that multiplex, always on LCN 96. The station's terrestrial coverage on channel 34 includes transmitters at Atena Lucana, Monte Stella, Montesano sulla Marcellana, Padula, Padula M.S. Canione, San Giovanni a Piro, San Giocondo, Sanza, Teggiano Via S. Antonio and Teggiano Via Ricigliano. The station maintains an online presence through its website and social media channels.
