Overview
Okręgowa Spółdzielnia Mleczarska w Prudniku (Regional Dairy Cooperative in Prudnik) was a dairy cooperative headquartered in Prudnik, Poland, with a branch in Łambinowice. It was established on 20 January 1946 as Okręgowa Spółdzielnia Mleczarska "Samopomoc Chłopska", on the site of a pre-World War II dairy known as Neustadter Molkerei eingetragene Goessenschaft mit beschrankter haftplicht in Neustadt O/S. The cooperative was closed in 1953 and reactivated in 1957. On 1 April 1976 it took over the plant in Łambinowice. It previously operated plants in Ścinawa and Głogówek, but these were taken over by the Regional Dairy Cooperative in Krapkowice, which closed in 2001. The cooperative produced dairy products, with about 80% of its output going to retail chains such as Biedronka, Aldi, Kaufland, and Carrefour. It had around 210 suppliers from the municipalities of Prudnik, Lubrza, Biała, Korfantów, and Strzeleczki. In 2019 it became the first in Poland to caramelize milk for rjażenka (a type of caramelized milk product). The cooperative received several awards, including Gazele Biznesu 2011, the XI edition of Gazele Biznesu, a Gold Badge from the Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Milk Producers (Poznań, 13 September 2011), Doceń Polskie – Top Product for Twaróg Imperial and Greek-style yogurt, and the Product of the Year 2017 emblem for Twaróg Imperial (Warsaw, 20 March 2017). On 19 August 2022 the cooperative filed for bankruptcy. In the proceedings it was found to be insolvent and failing to meet obligations to over 500 creditors. On 11 January 2023 the District Court in Opole declared the cooperative bankrupt, appointing Marcin Kubiczek as trustee. The brand is now defunct.
