Overview

Aomori Prefecture Credit Union (青森県信用組合, commonly abbreviated as "Kenshin'yo") is a credit cooperative (shinyo kumiai) headquartered in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It was established in July 1971 through the merger of six credit unions within the prefecture — Sannohe, Misawa, Shichinohe, Tōsei, Chūkō, and Seikō — and is, as of 2019, the only credit cooperative with its head office in Aomori Prefecture. Its business area covers the entire prefecture, and it operates 18 branches. The union is a cooperative financial institution whose members are local individuals and businesses. As of the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 (Reiwa 8), it reported deposits of 162.1 billion yen, capital contributions of 8.1 billion yen, 108,312 members, 18 branches, and 174 full-time officers and employees. Its chairman is Motohiro Horiuchi, who assumed the post in June 2018. The union positions itself as a "Kenshin'yo that is indispensable to the community," emphasizing its unchanging philosophy of mutual aid (相互扶助) and its role in providing stable financial services to small and medium-sized businesses and individuals in Aomori. Its service lineup includes internet banking (Kenshin'yo EB Service for individuals and Business Banking for corporations), savings and loan products for both individuals and corporations, debit cards, and various ATM partnerships. It participates in the "Shinkumi Otokunetto" ATM alliance among credit unions, and has ATM tie-ups with Seven Bank (since June 2008) and AEON Bank (since September 2008), as well as with Aomori Michinoku Bank. It also offers the "Shinkumi Peter Pan Card," a donation-linked card that contributes 0.3% of card spending to organizations supporting children with disabilities or intractable diseases in the prefecture and 0.2% to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity in London. Beyond banking, the union is active in community contribution: it runs the "Kenshin'yo Habataki Scholarship," a non-repayable grant for new high school students; conducts annual blood donation drives during "Shinkumi no Hi" week (September 1–7); collects unused stamps and postcards for donation to the Aomori Prefectural Council of Social Welfare; organizes cleanup activities in four areas of the prefecture; and has held the "Kenshin'yo Eco Painting Contest" for children since fiscal 2010. In February 2020, the Financial Services Agency announced a public funds injection of 7.2 billion yen to strengthen the union's capital base.
