Genç TV

Genç TV (Youth Television) was a Turkish youth and music television channel that began broadcasting in July 1994. It was founded by businessman Vedat Yelkenci and launched on terrestrial channel 37 from the Çamlıca transmitter in Üsküdar, Istanbul. It was one of Turkey's first music television channels, following Kral TV and Number One TV. Licensed as "Gençlik ve Müzik Televizyonu" (Youth and Music Television), the channel produced scheduled programming and was associated with a radio station, Genç Radyo. It was the first youth and music television channel to begin terrestrial broadcasting in 24 cities and competed with major channels in audience ratings. It was also the first channel to bring the Smartcard digital broadcasting system to Turkey. In 1998, after establishing BRT, its national broadcasting rights were sold by Bayındır Holding. In the late 1990s it was sold to the Karacan family, and in the early 2000s to a group called Entertainment Media Communication. At the time of its closure it was part of Raks Müzik, and its building was located in the Rentaş Ticaret Merkezi in Maslak. On 19 July 2017, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) decided to revoke its broadcasting license, and the channel ceased operations after its Türksat satellite and internet broadcasts were cut. The channel featured many presenters and VJs, including Ece Erken, Hande Kazanova, Fortuna Zafer, Beyaz, Esra Balamir, Melike Öcalan, and Özlem Yıldız. Its programming included music charts, magazine shows, youth programs, and entertainment formats such as Coca-Cola Top 20, Genç Magazin, and Abuzer Show.
