Overview
Galbot (银河通用, also written 银河通用机器人) is a Chinese robotics startup focused on embodied artificial intelligence — the combination of general-purpose robot bodies with large-scale learned control and perception models. The company was founded in Beijing in 2023 by Wang He, an academic researcher in computer vision and robotics, together with co-founders from industry and academia, and it has become one of the most closely watched names in China's humanoid-robot and embodied-AI wave. Galbot's product concept centres on a wheeled, dual-arm humanoid platform rather than a fully bipedal walking robot. The flagship Galbot G1 combines a mobile base, two dexterous arms and a vision system, and is positioned for tasks in retail, logistics, laboratories and service environments where grasping, picking and shelf work matter more than walking. Alongside hardware, the company develops the software stack — simulation-based training, synthetic data generation and vision-language-action models — that lets a single general model be adapted to many tasks. Commercially, Galbot has emphasised real deployments rather than demonstrations: unmanned retail stores in China where the robot picks and hands over goods, and pilot projects with industrial and logistics partners. The company has raised venture funding from Chinese and international investors and is frequently cited among the leading Chinese embodied-AI startups alongside Unitree, UBTech and others. Galbot remains a private, venture-backed company. Its brand positioning is that of a full-stack embodied-AI company — hardware, data and models together — aiming at general-purpose robots that can be deployed at scale rather than single-purpose automation.
History
Galbot was founded in Beijing in 2023, at a moment when Chinese investors and researchers were converging on embodied AI — the idea that the same large-model techniques that transformed language and vision could give robots general-purpose manipulation skills. Its founder, Wang He, came from an academic background in computer vision and robot learning, and the founding team combined university research with industry engineering experience. The company's early strategy differed from several Chinese rivals that pursued bipedal walking as a headline capability. Galbot instead built a wheeled humanoid: a stable mobile base carrying a torso, two arms and a head-mounted sensing suite. This choice reflected a commercial judgement that most near-term paid work — shelf replenishment, picking, retail service, laboratory handling — happens at table and shelf height, where wheels are cheaper, safer and more reliable than legs. The Galbot G1 became the company's flagship platform, marketed as a general-purpose robot whose behaviour is defined by software rather than bespoke mechanical design. Galbot invested heavily in simulation and synthetic data so that models could be trained without exhausting real-world trial time, and in vision-language-action models that let the robot follow natural-language instructions and generalize to unfamiliar objects. Commercially, Galbot moved early into unmanned retail, opening robot-operated convenience-store formats in China in which the G1 picks products from shelves and hands them to customers. These deployments served both as revenue and as data-collection environments. The company also pursued partnerships in logistics, manufacturing and laboratory automation. Galbot attracted venture financing from Chinese and international investors during the 2023–2025 humanoid-robot investment boom, and it is routinely grouped with Unitree, UBTech, AgiBot and other Chinese embodied-AI firms in industry coverage. It remains privately held and, as of the mid-2020s, is focused on scaling deployments and improving the generality of its robot foundation models.
