Overview

Scoop Weekly Taiwan (獨家報導周刊) is a Taiwanese general-interest magazine founded in 1986 by Shen Ye. Initially published as a biweekly with full-color broadsheet printing, it became a weekly in April 1990 due to strong sales. After founder Shen Ye passed away in June 2010, the magazine reverted to biweekly under then-editor-in-chief Lin Jianan. In February 2011 the publication entered internal restructuring, and in October 2011 Chang Yu acquired operating rights, rebranding it as a full-color magazine with honorary publisher Qu Meifeng and Chang Yu as publisher and president. In August 2012, Chang Yu established Scoop Media Group (獨家報導有限公司), expanding into print, electronic media, book publishing, startup matchmaking, film production, talent management, e-commerce, service matchmaking, livestreaming, and influencer marketing. The magazine is known for its investigative journalism and sensational scoops, including the 1986 Jiangnan Case killer's confession, the 1987 Cai Chenzhou corpse photos, and the 2001 Qu Meifeng sex tape scandal. Today it operates as an online news portal covering politics, cross-strait relations, international news, society, business, local, lifestyle, health, pets, and shopping.

History

Scoop Weekly Taiwan was founded in 1986 by Shen Ye as a biweekly magazine with full-color broadsheet printing. It quickly gained attention for its investigative scoops. In October 1986, it published the prison confession of Dong Guisen, one of the killers in the Jiangnan Case, selling out 30,000 copies. In May 1987, it published photos of Cai Chenzhou's corpse, debunking rumors that he had fled to Central America, and reprinted 30,000 copies within a week. In July 1987, it exposed cheating in the Patriot Lottery, leading to the lottery's discontinuation. From issue 21 to 32, print runs rose from 60,000 to over 360,000 copies, setting a record for Chinese-language magazines. In April 1990, it became a weekly, with its first issue featuring actress Wang Yongfang on the cover. In 1992, it attempted a women's magazine, Nobility Magazine, which was discontinued in 1994. In October 1995, it published the love affair between Wang Wenyan and Lu Anni. In 2001, it distributed a sex tape involving Qu Meifeng with the magazine, leading to a lawsuit; publisher Shen Rong (daughter of founder Shen Ye) was sentenced to two years in prison for invasion of privacy and jailed in March 2007, released in February 2008. After Shen Ye's death in June 2010, the magazine reverted to biweekly under editor-in-chief Lin Jianan. In February 2011, it entered internal restructuring. In October 2011, Chang Yu acquired operating rights, reformatted the magazine, and became publisher and president, with Qu Meifeng as honorary publisher. In August 2012, Chang Yu established Scoop Media Group, expanding into various media and entertainment businesses. The magazine continues as an online news portal.
