Haifong Go Academy

Haifong Go Academy (海峰棋院) is a Taiwanese Go organization dedicated to promoting Go culture, organizing professional and amateur tournaments, and raising the international profile of Taiwanese Go. It traces its origins to 1997, when Lin Wen-po (林文伯), motivated by his love of Go, donated NT$30 million to establish a foundation for promoting Go. After consulting with Go legend Lin Haifeng (林海峰), who agreed to serve as its first chairman, the "Haifong Culture and Education Foundation" (財團法人海峰文教基金會) was founded. The organization was formally established in 1998. Because running professional and amateur competitions required substantial money and manpower, the Haifong Foundation relied on long-term donations from Chairman Lin Wen-po and grew rapidly. To better support professional tournaments, Lin decided to merge the Haifong Culture and Education Foundation into the Peisheng Education Foundation (財團法人培生文教基金會), another foundation supported by Lin Wen-po and his family that had long worked in special education. After the merger, the Haifong Foundation's work was reorganized into "Haifong Go Academy," which continues to carry out Go promotion on the front lines. The academy's stated mission is to carry forward Go culture, promote the spirit of Go, popularize Go literacy among the general public, and enhance Taiwan's international visibility in Go. Its activities include creating diverse Go cultural events, organizing amateur and professional Go tournaments, promoting international Go exchange, and holding Go-related arts and cultural activities. It organizes major Taiwanese professional titles such as the Haifong Cup (海峰盃), Qiwang (棋王), Tianyuan (天元), Guoshou (國手), Qisheng (碁聖), Mingren (名人), and others, as well as amateur events including the Haifong Cup National Senior Go Tournament and the National Women's Go Open. It also runs professional player selection and training programs, including the Elite Team million-dollar incentive program launched with Yi-Tech. Haifong Go Academy is led by Chairman Lin Wen-po, with Lin Haifeng serving as honorary chairman. It works closely with the Chinese Professional Go Association (中華職業圍棋協會) on world championship Taiwanese representative selection. Through its tournaments, training, and international exchanges, it has become a central institution in Taiwan's professional Go ecosystem.
