Sapporo University of Health Sciences

Sapporo University of Health Sciences (札幌保健医療大学) is a private university located in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, formally established in 2013. It operates under the educational foundation 学校法人吉田学園 and comprises one faculty with two departments: the Department of Nursing and the Department of Nutrition within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The university also offers a graduate program, the Graduate School of Health Sciences (保健医療学研究科).

Sapporo University of Health Sciences traces its origins to the educational foundation 学校法人吉田学園, whose history began in September 1956 with the opening of 北海珠算専修学院 in Embetsu, Hokkaido. The foundation was reorganized as 学校法人吉田学園 in October 1978 and later became a full 学校法人 in November 2012. In April 2010, a university establishment preparatory office was set up under the Sapporo University of Health Sciences concept. In November 2012, the Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Nursing received approval from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the university opened in April 2013. In April 2015, a preparatory office for the Department of Nutrition was launched, and in August 2016 the Department of Nutrition received MEXT approval. In April 2017, the Faculty of Nursing was renamed the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Nutrition was established, and the Department of Nursing was renamed accordingly. In April 2018, a teacher-training course was established in the Department of Nutrition. In April 2023, the Graduate School of Health Sciences (保健医療学研究科) with a major in Health Sciences was opened.
