Overview

Unazuki Suginoi Hotel (宇奈月杉乃井ホテル) was a Japanese hot spring hotel located in Unazuki Onsen, Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture. The property opened in July 1970 as Unazuki New Otani Hotel (宇奈月ニューオータニホテル), a hotel affiliated with the New Otani group. It sits on the site of a prewar military sanatorium for wounded soldiers, overlooking the Kurobe River gorge and the old and new Yamabiko bridges. In April 2014 the hotel was transferred from New Otani to ORIX Real Estate Corporation. On 14 March 2015 it was rebranded from Unazuki New Otani Hotel to Unazuki Suginoi Hotel. The hotel closed on 1 December 2017 for renovation, and in September 2018 it was renamed Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Yamanoha (黒部・宇奈月温泉 やまのは). Renovation work was completed in January 2019 and the hotel reopened on 1 March 2019. It is part of ORIX Real Estate's ORIX HOTELS & RESORTS portfolio, and after a July 2022 recategorization it was classified in the ryokan collection. The hotel offered 141 guest rooms with a capacity of 714 guests, a cafe lounge, a large buffet restaurant called Seeds with a cylindrical aquarium about 1.4 meters in diameter, convention and banquet halls, a Japanese restaurant area, and hot spring baths including the large bath Daikurobe and the open-air bath Tanayu, fed by a free-flowing hot spring facing the Kurobe gorge. It is about a 20-minute drive from Kurobe-Unazuki Onsen Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen and a 3-minute walk from Unazuki Onsen Station on the Toyama Chihō Railway.

History

The hotel opened on 19 July 1970 as Unazuki New Otani Hotel (宇奈月ニューオータニホテル), a hotel under the New Otani group, on the site of a prewar sanatorium for wounded soldiers in Unazuki Onsen, Toyama Prefecture. On 1 September 1987, after renovations, a new 10-story annex called Asuka opened. On 25 April 1991, a reconstruction project that had been underway for three years was completed and the hotel reopened; the renovation combined pairs of rooms into single larger rooms and added bay windows, reducing capacity from 160 rooms/800 guests to 127 rooms/771 guests while raising room rates. On 8 April 2014, the hotel was transferred from New Otani to ORIX Real Estate Corporation. On 14 March 2015, it was rebranded from Unazuki New Otani Hotel to Unazuki Suginoi Hotel. On 1 December 2017, the hotel closed for renovation. In September 2018, it was renamed Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Yamanoha (黒部・宇奈月温泉 やまのは). Renovation work was completed in January 2019, and the hotel reopened on 1 March 2019. On 1 April 2020, following the integration of ORIX Real Estate's hotel operating companies, Unazuki Hotel was merged into Blue Wave, and the operating company changed to ORIX Hotel Management Corporation (which was renamed from Blue Wave on the same day). In July 2022, after the launch of ORIX HOTELS & RESORTS, a recategorization placed the property in the ryokan collection.
