Overview
Île Napoléon (Centre commercial Île Napoléon) is a French shopping centre located on the outskirts of Mulhouse, on the territory of the communes of Illzach and Sausheim in Alsace. It was inaugurated in 1973 on the former site of the Île Napoléon. It is the largest shopping centre in the Haut-Rhin department. The centre is owned by two property companies: Henderson Global Investors and Carrefour Property. It comprises a 10,600 m² gallery, of which 6,500 m² are shops, and a 13,000 m² hypermarket. The centre includes 60 shops, ten of which are restaurants, and is surrounded by many other retailers that have settled in its immediate vicinity. Historically, the shopping centre has performed well and has created significant dynamism and attractiveness. The hypermarket was ranked among the very select circle of "billionaire hypermarkets" in francs, while the gallery generates more than €40 million in annual turnover. Between 2005 and 2008, the centre's communication focused on its strategic location, at the heart of the Three Borders region and its motorway axes, as well as in the eastern part of the Mulhouse agglomeration. The centre also developed its presence in the heart of Alsace and among Alsatians. It also acts as a player in local life alongside local authorities. In 2009, the centre hosted the internal security days, with the presence of Secretary of State and former mayor of Mulhouse Jean-Marie Bockel. In 2010, the centre hosted the start of a stage of the Tour Alsace, an international race on the UCI calendar.
