History

Éditions P'tit Louis was founded in 1989 by Bruno Bertin in Rennes, Brittany, as a French publishing house dedicated to bande dessinée. Its first publication appeared in 1990: Fougères à travers son Histoire, a black-and-white all-ages comic. In 1992 the company changed its name to Éditions A'grafe and diversified into communications agency work. In 1995 it refocused on comic publishing and reverted to the P'tit Louis name, marked by the release of the first album in the adventures of Vick et Vicky, Le Trésor des Chevrets, created by Bruno Bertin and Jean Rolland. From that point the catalogue opened up to other authors, both newcomers and established names, and expanded beyond comics into youth novels and books on heritage. The publisher now lists more than 200 titles and around thirty authors. In addition to its own books, it distributes works from other publishing houses including Coyote Jeunesse, Monkey Verde, Chemin Faisant and Ouest Livres. The company is a société par actions simplifiée (SAS) headquartered in Rennes and describes itself as an independent Breton publisher with over 35 years of activity, offering free downloads for schools and individuals, a magazine, games and derivative products under its Studio Vicky line. It has announced new collections and authors for 2026 and 2027.
