Overview
Éditions du Relié, also known simply as Le Relié, is a French publishing house founded in 1992 by Yvan Amar. From its creation the company specialised in contemporary spiritual teachings, presenting the experiences and testimonies of spiritual figures from both East and West. Its catalogue is organised into seven collections, covering meditation, Zen, personal development, and the wisdom traditions. The publisher became known for a number of best-selling titles. Marc de Smedt, one of its authors, published works such as Éloge du silence (46,000 copies), Techniques de méditation (42,000 copies) and Paroles zen (100,000 copies) with the house. In 1999 Jacques Salomé published Courage d'être soi, which sold more than 180,000 copies and was later reprinted in paperback by Pocket with more than 400,000 copies in circulation. In 2002 the house published Les chants de l'île à dormir debout by the French writer Elisabeth Inandiak, which won the Prix littéraire de l'Asie in 2003. The magazine Clés was also edited by Éditions du Relié. Ownership changed over time. In 1998 Yvan Amar ceased his editorial activity for health reasons and asked Marc de Smedt and the Club du Livre Essentiel (Clés) to take over the publishing house. Since 2012 the publisher Guy Trédaniel has directed the SARL. The company remains a small, privately held French publisher focused on spirituality and well-being, with its backlist continuing to reach readers through bookshops and paperback editions.
