Ägg Tapes & Records

Ägg Tapes & Records is a Swedish independent record label dedicated to punk music, active since the 1980s. It is run by Kent "Ägget" Berntsen and is based in Gothenburg, the city whose hardcore scene it has documented extensively. The label is best known for its long-running compilation series Äggröran (volumes 1 through 7) and for signing and releasing records by the bands Vrävarna and The Kristet Utseende. The label's catalogue spans cassette releases in its early years and later CD and vinyl editions, with a numbering system (Ägg-1, Ägg-2, and so on) that runs through dozens of titles. Its roster has included a broad cross-section of Swedish punk and hardcore acts such as Mob 47, Moderat Likvidation, The Bristles, Troublemakers, Sten & Stalin, SBD, Barbaras Grannar, Total Egon, Lilla Lovis, John Wildcat, Fula Gubben, Iguana Party, Praetorian Platoon, Slumberjack, Idiot, Sötlimpa, Tatuerade Snutkukar, Dj Baba, Gbg Punx, Not Enough Hate, Bannlyst, Sänkta Claez, Total Egon and others. Alongside its own releases, the label has been involved in co-productions and sub-labels, including Gbg Hardcore punk 81-85, the Varning för punk CD box, Iguana Party albums on the ROCKCD imprint, SvenÖrjans on GRAM, and Punkstad Göteborg 2001 on PUNKCD. As a small, owner-operated label, Ägg Tapes & Records functions as both a record company and a curator of Swedish punk history, reissuing and anthologising material from the 1980s Gothenburg scene. In addition to its own releases, the label has been involved in co-productions and sub-labels, including DISTCD Gbg Hardcore punk 81-85, the DISTCD Varning för punk 1-3 CD box, ROCKCD1 and ROCKCD2 for Iguana Party, GRAM 3 for SvenÖrjans, MRN Vi håller inte käften, and PUNKCD Punkstad Göteborg 2001.
