Overview

The Éditions À l'enseigne du Pot cassé is a publishing house that reappears a century after its foundation to publish classic texts on prestige papers with original engravings. It revives all historical collections and adds a new collection Theatrum Mundi for world theater works. Each book is published in strictly limited and numbered editions.

History

The name 'À l'enseigne du pot cassé' originates with Geoffroy Tory, a humanist who settled in Paris around 1521 as a printer-bookseller under that sign. In 1522, his daughter Agnès died at age ten, and Tory adopted the 'Enseigne au Pot cassé' as his mark. In the 20th century, Constantin Castéra launched a publishing house in 1925 at 14 rue de Beaune in Paris, in homage to Tory, using the same name. The current editions reappear a century after their foundation to publish classic texts.
