Fined 500,000 yuan over false reference prices and price-increase claims for courses
In 2021, the Beijing Haidian Market Supervision Administration found that when Beijing NetEase Youdao Computer System Co., Ltd. sold certain courses, it displayed struck-through prices that had never actually been transaction prices and falsely claimed that prices would increase, constituting false and misleading commercial promotion; it ordered the company to make corrections and fined it 500,000 yuan.

A former instructor accused NetEase Youdao of terminating his contract six months early to cut costs and removing his courses without his knowledge. NetEase Youdao's legal department said it had emailed him before informing students of his departure and that the contract was terminated because of inappropriate language in class; the source says the parties disputed the account and no conclusion had been reached.
