Norco site contamination controversy
Residents near Wyle’s former 450-acre Norco, California facility sued residential developers and questioned whether the development process had adequately disclosed the site’s military, nuclear-research, and aerospace-testing activities. Community members expressed concerns about chemical handling, disposal practices, groundwater contamination, and possible health effects. The EPA found the site eligible for consideration for the National Priorities List because of pollution but did not place it on the list because California was supervising cleanup. Wyle later entered a state order requiring investigation and remediation. Officials reported that they had no evidence at the time of a significant health threat, and a cancer-registry epidemiologist reported no evidence of a cancer cluster. Community monitoring continued after the site ceased operations.
