Channel 12 license implicated in FCC influence controversy
The award of Jacksonville channel 12 became part of a broader congressional and judicial investigation into alleged improper ex parte communications involving FCC commissioner Richard Mack and parties in contested television licensing proceedings. The controversy led to repeated reviews of the WFGA-TV grant, a court-ordered reopening of the proceeding, and ultimately a consortium-based settlement approved by the FCC in 1971.
