Early spending crisis and financial investigation
WSKG's original management overspent during construction and launch, leaving the organization heavily indebted and close to shutting down. Questions surrounding purchases of broadcast equipment and other items led to an audit and a state-police investigation. Former general manager Jerry R. Brown was indicted on grand-larceny charges in 1970; the indictment was dismissed in 1973.
