    WKTR-TV ABC affiliation bribery controversy

A regional ABC manager was accused of directing WKTR-TV toward a payment to a purported consultant as part of the station's effort to secure the Dayton ABC affiliation. The matter resulted in a criminal complaint, ABC personnel changes, litigation, cancellation of the affiliation, and federal scrutiny. The controversy concerned WPTD's commercial predecessor rather than the later public-television operation, but it is central to the history of channel 16.
