Speech plagiarism controversy involving Leonid Eidelman
At the WMA General Assembly in Reykjavík, the Canadian Medical Association alleged that portions of incoming president Leonid Eidelman’s speech were copied from a 2014 address by Canadian cardiologist Chris Simpson and from other publicly available material without appropriate attribution. A Canadian motion calling for Eidelman’s resignation was unsuccessful. Eidelman later apologized, according to the cited reporting, and the Canadian Medical Association resigned from the WMA, arguing that the organization had not upheld the ethical standards it promoted.
