Cold War criticism and alleged communist influence

Historians and critics alleged that some WCC representatives from Eastern European Orthodox churches had relationships with communist security services and influenced council policy. The issue formed part of wider criticism of the WCC's political positions during the Cold War, although the council also expressed concern about abuses in communist countries.
