WLVT auction-rigging scandal
Former station development officials disclosed that manager Sheldon Siegel had directed volunteers to place fictitious bids during fundraising auctions to increase activity and help sell slow-moving items. Siegel admitted the practice. The controversy led to Corporation for Public Broadcasting scrutiny, an audit, reduced grant support, an investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office, board changes, management reform, member losses, and significant financial pressure.
