  1. 1973

    Complaint concerning shareholder's segregation-academy affiliation

A complaint argued that shareholder William Mounger's leadership role at Jackson Academy raised questions about his fitness to hold a broadcast license. The FCC rejected the filing in 1974 as untimely.

  2. 1969

Segregationist programming and FCC license revocation

WLBT's earlier ownership and management were accused of suppressing civil-rights coverage, promoting segregationist viewpoints, preempting network programming involving racial justice, and failing to serve the entire viewing public. Litigation led to a ruling that the station's broadcast license should be revoked; the decision became final after appeal in 1971.
