    Taiwan ATM malware theft

    In July 2016, at least 34 ATMs operated by Taiwan’s First Commercial Bank were used in a malware-enabled theft in which more than NT$70 million was illegally withdrawn. The machines had been manufactured by Wincor Nixdorf. The company sent security specialists to assist with the investigation. Taiwanese authorities later reported that the criminal group, involving people from Russia, Romania, and Latvia, had been identified.
