Joe Crain dismissal and Code Red weather-alert controversy

WICS meteorologist Joe Crain was dismissed after criticizing Sinclair’s policy requiring weather-producing stations to use Code Red terminology for designated severe-weather threats. Viewers, local commentators, and Senator Dick Durbin objected that the system could overstate risks and create unnecessary alarm. Sinclair continued the policy and advertised for a replacement meteorologist.
