    York Sanitation Site groundwater controversy

Residents and community advocates challenged the operation and proposed expansion of York Sanitation Site No. 4, arguing that waste disposal threatened local groundwater and the town's aquifer. Reports cited large quantities of contaminated leachate and later described PCB findings in well water. The site was ordered closed in 1983 after sustained public and political pressure.
