Allegations of Chinese Communist Party support

A Reuters investigation reported that the movement behind protests against the Dalai Lama had backing from the Chinese Communist Party. Former participant Lama Tsetsa alleged that United Front officials paid him and other Tibetans to organize protests. The reporting prompted the International Shugden Community and the WSS to cease operations and dissolve.

  2. Criticism over sectarian positioning and organizational links

The WSS was criticized by Robert Barnett and described by Inform as closely connected to, or functioning as a front for, the New Kadampa Tradition. Critics questioned the breadth of its representation and its attacks on the Dalai Lama.
