Film Company Commander Guan criticized by People's Daily and others
After the 1951 release of Company Commander Guan, produced by Wenhua Film Company and directed by and starring Shi Hui, it was criticized by Wenyi Bao and People's Daily as promoting 'bourgeois humanism,' portraying the PLA as rude and undisciplined, and distorting the image of Party members; it was linked to the contemporaneous criticism campaign against The Life of Wu Xun. In 1952, Wenhua merged into Shanghai United Film Studio. The film was banned and criticized, and the company was merged.
