Wanhua Chemical Yantai MDI plant buffer tank explosion kills 4, injures 4
A buffer tank at the MDI unit in the Yantai Industrial Park of Wanhua Chemical, controlled by Wanhua Industrial Group, exploded on September 20, 2016, killing 4 people and injuring 4, with direct economic losses of 5.7362 million yuan. It was classified as a relatively major production safety liability accident, with the cause related to a valve. The Yantai Municipal Safety Supervision Bureau fined Wanhua Chemical 800,000 yuan and fined President Liao Zengtai 40% of his previous year's income; 9 responsible persons at the company were held accountable.
