2018
Dispute over complete demolition
A developer applied to demolish the remaining villa and create a public square. The proposal, together with the court's finding that the earlier works breached its order, made the building a prominent Maltese heritage controversy.
2017
Unlawful partial demolition
Part of Villa St Ignatius was demolished in December 2017 while the property was subject to court-supervised restrictions. The work drew condemnation from Din l-Art Ħelwa, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar, the Chamber of Architects, the Sliema Heritage Society, the Democratic Party and the Interdiocesan Environmental Commission.
