USPTO objection to the “Dyke Culture in Bloom” trademark

The USPTO initially rejected Velvetpark’s trademark application because it regarded the word “dyke” as immoral and scandalous. Velvetpark amended the filing and argued that the term was an accepted and welcomed signifier within the lesbian community. The revised mark was approved in 2006.
