Dispute over proposed media ownership restrictions
The Polish government and Law and Justice-led parliamentary majority pursued legislation restricting ownership of Polish broadcasters by companies outside the European Economic Area. Because Discovery owned TVN, the proposal was widely understood as posing a direct threat to TVN’s ownership and was criticized as an attack on media pluralism. The legislation passed the Sejm but was vetoed by President Andrzej Duda on 27 December 2021.
