Network Rail sues DB Cargo UK and Touax Rail for over £5m over Llangennech derailment
Lawsuit filed
Network Rail filed a High Court claim against DB Cargo UK and Touax Rail seeking more than £5 million in damages over the August 2020 derailment near Llangennech, south Wales, which spilled about 446,000 litres of fuel, ignited 116,000 litres and drained 330,000 litres into protected wetlands. Network Rail alleges Touax failed to maintain the wagon with reasonable care and that DB Cargo UK breached a contractual duty to ensure reasonable care was taken. DB Cargo and Touax have yet to file defences and no hearing has taken place.
