Controversy over request to cover a Christian cross
An usher asked German Catholic abbot Nikodemus Schnabel to cover a prominent cross necklace at the Western Wall. The incident generated criticism in the context of concerns about anti-Christian hostility in Jerusalem. The foundation said there was no formal regulation banning crosses and described the request as a polite effort to avoid discomfort; it also said entry was not denied.
