Thanet Earth

Thanet Earth is described as Britain's leading glasshouse complex, situated in East Kent. The glasshouses are estimated to produce around 550 million tomatoes, 33 million cucumbers, and 24 million peppers each year. The company grows tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers in six large glasshouses, and sells all produce to UK customers only.

Thanet Earth's story began in 2005 with an idea to help reverse a decline in protected salad vegetables grown in the UK. The founders aimed to compete with large-scale growers in Holland and Spain. The business was formed and funding secured in 2005/06, infrastructure work started in 2007, greenhouse construction began in April 2008, and the first plants were placed by December 2008. The first cucumbers were harvested in March 2009, and the company reached a £50m sales target in 2010. In 2011, they launched the Thanet Earth Discovery Fellowship with Hadlow College.
