MetaWorms NFT controversy
Team17 announced MetaWorms, a proposed NFT collection using procedurally generated Worms characters. Several studios that had worked with or alongside the publisher criticized the plan and threatened to avoid future collaboration. Reports also described employees as being surprised by the announcement. Team17 cancelled the project shortly afterward, making it one of the clearest examples of reputational and strategic backlash in the company’s history.
