Volkswagen TDI emissions defeat-device scandal
Volkswagen Group installed engine-management software in certain diesel vehicles that detected emissions testing and activated controls more fully during the test cycle than during ordinary driving. US regulators identified the issue in approximately 480,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles with 2.0-litre TDI engines sold from the 2009 through 2015 model years. Volkswagen later acknowledged worldwide use of the software in diesel vehicles, with approximately 11 million vehicles reported as affected.
